This is primarily what I do for my Iceland travel company when there isn’t an eclipse. I create one-of-a-kind custom itineraries based exactly on what your group is looking for. And of course I would include eclipse viewing.
Pricing: I will charge a planning fee of $2,500 per group* to create your itinerary. The process starts with a one-on-one phone call so I can understand exactly what you are looking for. Every itinerary I create is one-of-a-kind, and includes a full lodging and touring plan for every day.
* This price is valid for groups of up to 6 people, and for a trip up to 1 week. I don’t count your departure day (though I still plan it for you) so a Saturday to Saturday trip counts as 7 days, not 8. The fee is $200 for each additional day of your trip. Groups of 7 or 8 people will have a $500 surcharge.
The planning fee allows me to plan your trip as I would plan my own. You would just then pay the actual cost of the rest of your trip (airfare, lodging, tours, rental car, etc.) I won’t try to steer you toward lodging or tours that pay me a commission.
Airbnb is sometimes the best choice for groups of more than 2 people, and I’ll work to find out the best option for you. (Airbnbs may be hard to find around the eclipse, though!) Note that I can book just about any lodging for you, except that per Airbnb rules I am not allowed to book an Airbnb for you.
What’s included in the planning fee:
- A full lodging plan. I’ll work with you to select lodging from what I’ve already booked, or to help you find other lodging options that work for you. If I assign you a room that I’ve already reserved, you’ll pay the actual price that I was quoted. (This is a valuable service, because in some cases I’ve already paid for the lodging!)
- A detailed itinerary customized for your group, including food, sights to seem tours, and even gas stations. You’ll have everything you need for your trip!
- Help with a car rental reservation. I can usually save you 10% on a rental car, since I don’t take a commission for my fee-based itinerary clients. You’ll even have free access to my video course that teaches you how to drive in Iceland.
- I’ll talk about any tours you may want to book (glacier hikes, horseback riding, ATV rides, lava cave tours) and work those into your itinerary. I can reserve these tours for you, and then include the tickets on your itinerary.
- Access to a mobile app with your itinerary, that will allow you to download your itinerary to your phone or tablet.
- I’ll send you power adapters to use in Iceland (and to keep!) as well as a copy of my book, 100 Tips for Visiting Iceland. I’ll also send you some tourist maps for the areas you’ll be visiting.
What’s not included in the planning fee:
- The actual cost of your trip, including airfare, lodging, tours, and food.
- Travel insurance. We can talk about whether you want travel insurance or not, once we see that the cancellation policies are on your lodging. Some of my clients opt to self-insure if their lodging is refundable until a few days before their trip.
Next steps
There is a $1,000 deposit required for each group. Since you’ve likely already paid $200, you’ll just owe an additional $800.
To start the process, just fill out the form below. Filling out the form isn’t a commitment yet- the next steps will be an agreement that I’ll send you, and a deposit that you’ll send me.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions. I will also reach out once I receive your form to talk about any questions you have. Thanks!
