Hi everyone! This post is for people who sent in a refundable deposit. With the eclipse just under 2 years away, it’s time to lock in your spot on one of my tour options! Which also means it’s time to choose the style of trip you’re looking for. Here are all of the details!
Iceland Eclipse group van tours
These will have approximately 16-18 people on each van, along with a driver who is also a certified guide. I will have multiple vans, and I’ll likely be on one of them. You’ll be on one van the entire time, and your driver will be with you the entire time. Sometimes, I’ll have multiple vans in one place doing the same thing, and sometimes we’ll have more than one group staying together at one lodging location. But the goal is to not make it feel like large bus caravan- different groups will be focusing on different things. We may all hang out together for the eclipse viewing too!
The pricing for the group van tour will be $5,700 per person (with some exceptions listed below.) I had to bump it up a bit because the price quotes I’m getting back for this trip were higher than I was anticipating.
Discount for kids
The price will be $4,700 for children 12 and under. If you have a large family, you will likely save money doing a self-drive tour if you’re comfortable with that option!
Extra charge for solo travelers
If you’re traveling by yourself, I can try to match you up with another traveler if you’re interested. Otherwise, the price for a solo traveler will be $7,000. (I may be able to reduce this based on your lodging. For example, I have a few rooms that have shared bathrooms, which would lower the price.)
Included in the price:
- Transfers to and from the airport. The tour will start the morning of August 7th with your driver meeting you at the airport.
- Lodging. Lodging will range from nice guesthouses (like in the eclipse area) to a really really nice hotel for your last night: I’ve reserved a block of rooms at Hotel Borg in Reykjavik. Conde Nast Magazine lists it as one of the 12 best hotels in Iceland, and says “The city’s oldest and most elegant hotel still reigns supreme.”
(I also have some 4 and 6 person apartments booked in Reykjavik for that night,) - Food. All meals are included in the price. Most dinners will be sit-down meals at full service restaurants, including a couple of my favorite places. (Trips with kids will have fewer sit-down dinners!) Breakfast will be a buffet if your hotel offers one, or I’ll figure out a plan if not. Lunches will depend on the itinerary plan for the day. We may sit down for some lunches, but many days will be closer to takeout sandwiches and salads from a local restaurant or grocery store. (I’m personally a fan of sandwiches at the grocery stores, which include smoked lamb with beans, or ham and cranberry and brie!)
- Tours. These will be customized for each group, but will include some of my favorites like lava caves, ATVs, glacier hikes, and horseback riding.
- Transportation. This includes your van for the trip, as well as ferry tickets if your group is visiting the Westman Islands. (Most or all of you will!) It also includes your transfer back to the airport. (I’ll try to make this a small group transfer for people on similar flights, but it might end up being a bus if your schedule is different, or if you’re staying extra nights.)
Not included in the price:
- International flights to or from Iceland. I can help you with arranging your flights, but I’ve found that most people seem happier to make the actual purchase themselves. This is fine with me! I’ll reach out once flights are available, and you can reach out to me to ask if a flight is arriving at a good time.
- Travel insurance. You’ll need to send in a non-refundable deposit of $1,000 per person to secure your tour; I can subtract out the $200 deposit to make the total you’ve paid $1,000 per person. Note that this non-refundable deposit starts the clock on travel insurance; many companies will only cover pre-existing medical conditions if you buy insurance within 3 weeks of your deposit. I can recommend a company my travel agency works with, or you can go with any company you want.
- An extra day (or more) in Iceland before or after the trip. The plan is to arrive in Reykjavik on August 13, and then spend the night of the 13th in Reykjavik. I also have a block of rooms at Hotel Borg for the next night, if you want to have a full day (and more) to spend in Reykjavik.
I can help you plan an itinerary for extra days before or after the trip, even if it’s just a hotel near the airport for the night before the trip. - Souvenirs and snacks.
Group van itinerary
This hasn’t changed from my original plan, and the trip looks something like this:
Thursday, August 6, 2026: This is not an official day of the tour. But most of you traveling from the United States will fly out the evening of August 6th, and arrive in Iceland the morning of the 7th. Make sure you don’t book a flight for the 7th arriving on the 8th!
Friday, August 7, 2026: Arrive in the morning and meet the bus. We’ll do some sightseeing and light hiking to get some outdoor time to adjust to the time change. This may be the one day we don’t do a sit-down dinner, because typically everyone is exhausted and ready to go to bed by dinnertime.
Saturday, August 8, 2026: See the Golden Circle. This is a popular tourist area, and I want to go before the eclipse crowds get even bigger. (Note that I may decide on an early start time to beat the crowds!)
Sunday, August 9, 2026: South Coast tour, including some of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls and black sand beaches.
Monday, August 10, 2026: Westman Islands. This is one of my favorite places in Iceland, with a large amount of both puffins and volcano history. It’s a 35-minute ferry ride each way.
Tuesday, August 11, 2026: The eclipse is tomorrow, and today we’ll drive up to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, with some stops along the way to see volcanic cliffs and learn some Viking history.
Wednesday, August 12, 2026: Eclipse Day! Your lodging will be in the path of totality, so we can decide if you just want to hang out at your lodging, or meet up for a group event.
Thursday, August 13, 2026: Drive to Reykjavik, say goodbye to your guide, and do a walking tour in Reykjavik.
Friday, August 14, 2026: Transfer to the airport (or stay a while longer!)
