Nearly 10 years ago, I wrote the first edition of my book, Iceland With Kids. Since then I’ve planned over 100 custom Iceland family vacations and Iceland multi-generational tours. I’m a weird travel agent who only plans trips to Iceland! Before I tell you what makes me different (and hopefully better) at creating the perfect Iceland multi-generational tour for your family, maybe it’s easier to let one of my clients speak for me:
Iceland was incredible. What made it unforgettable was Eric.
We have traveled a fair amount over the years, and this was by far the most memorable and enjoyable trip we have ever taken. That was thanks to Eric and Iceland With Kids. He did not just plan an itinerary. He built an experience that felt like it was designed just for us.
Every detail was personalized. From the places we visited, to the great accommodations, to the driver he paired us with (Tomas, who quickly became a family favorite). We left Iceland genuinely talking about moving there. That is how good this trip was.
What truly sets Eric apart is how he takes care of your family. My eldest daughter wanted to go on a very late night whale watching trip. I felt safe letting her go alone in Iceland. But when she sent me photos the next day, there was Eric. He had gone with her, made sure she got back safely, and even stopped for food on the way.
You will even see Eric in some of our photos. That is how involved and caring he was throughout the trip. By the end, he felt like part of the family.
That is the kind of person you get when you work with Eric. Someone who treats your family like his own. I would trust him with any trip, and with my children.
If you are even considering this, do it. You will come home with stories you will talk about for years. We certainly did. Thank you, Eric and Tomas.
(Iceland With Kids and Iceland Step by Step are both me– 2 different brand names that are part of the the same company!)

Here’s what I think makes me different from most other tour companies:
I plan your Iceland multi-generational tour like I’m planning a trip for my family.
That’s it. That’s what I do. I don’t just quote you a (gigantic) price per day of your tour. I’ll talk to you, one-on-one, to see what you want. And I’ll charge you a fixed planning fee, so you see exactly where you’re spending your money:
- Do you want a private guide? (Tomas really is the best.)
- Do you want me to join you? (Tomas and I together make an amazing team for larger groups.)
- Do you want to stay at luxury hotels? Airbnbs? Do you want to take over an entire guesthouse? I’ll make it happen, and keep you informed about the options and prices every step of the way.
- Do you want to eat in restaurants every meal? Or I can build in grocery store or bakery stops to save money and time. (Icelandic grocery stores have some great and unique pre-made sandwiches and salads!)
- Do you want a lot of guided tours, like glacier hikes and whale watching? I’ll give you everything that sounds great to you, and nothing that doesn’t. And I’ll make sure I recommend tours that can be enjoyed by everyone in your group, or I’ll help you split up for parts of the trip!
- New for 2026 and 2027 trips: Ask me about a new option, where I interview your family using professional audio gear to create an audio archive of your family stories and memories!

About Eric and Iceland Step by Step
Here’s more about me. But the short version is that my wife and I took our 5(!) kids to Iceland for an entire summer. I guess that counts as a small multi-generational Iceland tour!
I don’t have a team (besides all of the amazing guides I work with and recommend in Iceland.) When you work with me, you’re working with me. There’s no assistant I pawn you off to, and definitely no AI.
